The Heartless Vegan

I've gone vegan for one reason, it is healthier for ME.  Not because I care about the animals, I don't.
Last year after much research and consideration I decided to adopt a vegan diet. I fell off the wagon HARD last summer but I'm climbing back on.   The decision is completely selfish,  based only on the health benefits to me.   It's about me.  I don't care at all about the poor sad animals in the Sarah McLachlan commercial

I know a plant based diet is the only diet if you want maximum health. I did the research.  But if the research had told me that the most sadistic foods are the healthiest, that "live monkey brains" are the way to go... I'd be building a table with the little hole in the middle.

But it gets worse.  Not only do I not care if animals are killed and eaten, I do not care if animals are mistreated.  I don't care if  my various health and beauty products are tested on animals.  I do not care.
Sure, hurting animals is wrong.  I also think the Taliban stoning a woman to death because she taught a girl to read is even more wrong.  I'll give money for that, the Afghani women's reading thing.  Not  the   ASPCA, they get nothing.

Now before you start picketing and throwing blood on me I don't think anyone should mistreat animals, or mistreat people for that matter.  I don't watch puppy torture porn (is that a thing).  I know the abuse of animals is an indication of real psychological issues.  But that doesn't mean that I need to care about what happens to animals.  I don't want to mistreat them, personally. I just don't worry about them if they are mistreated by someone else.

To me it's like caring about what happens to oysters.  Are you wracked with anguish over the daily atrocity at the Acme Oyster Bar?  They're not just \raw you know...they're ALIVE.

I like cats, I do.  I've had cats as pets and enjoyed their company.  If a friend called and said I'm stranded in California, please feed my cat.  I would  gladly feed the cat, pet the cat and change it's litter box. Because it's a kindness for my friend.  I'm not, however, worried about the strays in my neighborhood. And if you've ever had a cat then you know, if they were just 50 pounds heaver they'd kill us in our sleep and eat us.

Now there are people who go way too far with the whole animal thing.  I know a few.  But none of them are vegan...hum.

I think my animal loving, non vegan, friends are nuts.  They buy pet food for shelters, they share pictures of their own AND others pets.  Like: "look at my sisters new rescue dog!  Isn't he precious?" I don't want to look at pictures of your kids, much less your sisters fucking dog.

One friend belongs to a group that sends emails, letters and Christmas gifts to each others' pets FROM their pets.   Another, who is NOT wealthy very sweat and caring Christian spent $4,000 on a surgery for her 3 year old bulldog.  4 GRAND!  I'm sure there were 4 people in her church for whom $1000 would have been life changing money.  To me it's INSANE.  The dog cost like $200. That's 20 new bulldogs.  Put him down and get a new one. You'd probably only have to spend, I don't know like $600 tops, to finally get a good one.  America spent $3,000,000 on Halloween costumes for PETS! How many pairs of school shoes would that buy?

I don't care if you're beating your dog as long as I can't hear it.  They all wanted to lynch Michael Vick.  I didn't care that Michael Vick killed his dogs.  Sure Animal torture is part of the MacDonald sociopathic triad. But what do I care if Atlanta's quarterback is a sociopath? Does he want to date my sister?  Better him than Darren Sharper.

Former New Orleans Saint Darren Sharper is accused of multiple rapes, I doubt he'll be vilified as vigorously as Vick was.  Football player hurts animals and we go all: boo hiss, jail, fines, ban him from the game!  Football player hurts women and we're kinda like... Yeah, sure, why not.  Which brings me back to Sarah.

Like many people I hate that Sarah McLachlan commercial for the ASPCA.  It's manipulative and irritating,  When it I saw it the first time it made me mad.  The camera is panning over abused animals and all I could think of was there are children in those same circumstances.  It made me hate the ASPCA.  I don't think they should get a dime until every child in the world is safe, clothed and fed.  But I digress.

I read Fast Food Nation (link to full text PDF, you're welcome), I know the arguments, hell I've made the arguments (See post I got a thing about chickens),   The modern process of a slaughter house is horrific.  Meat production and processing is a blight on the environment.  Animal products are bad for you.  So if you love animals so much, don't eat em.

The Fonz says
Veggies are cool!

Ask me if its wrong to mistreat animals, if there should be tougher laws, more fines and regulation.... I'll say "yeah, sure, why not?",  but ask me to do anything about it personally.... sorry, I'm too busy shopping online for a new leather jacket.

Oh and the feed the children link is live. I donate every year.
