Good vs evil? Maybe.

Is there a moral imperative to eat better?  Does following a righteous path require consideration of what you eat?  Maybe.

If I were a religious man looking at the the diet of America, I would assume that processed food is the work of the devil.  Cheap plentiful, tasty, drug like food that makes you feel good for a moment and then makes you sick and lethargic.  Food that masquerades as "good" but makes you lazy and obese and slothful.   Food that requires the systematized slaughter and mistreatment of animals to feed the massive demand.  Food that destroys the environment in it's mass production with chemicals and fertilizer.  Shiny tasty poison, drenched in blood.  Definitely the work of the devil.
On the other hand God's food is not so "drug" like yet it helps you live longer and better.  Vegetables and fruit, whole grains and beans.  Gown naturally from the earth; requires no blood spilled and makes you happy and full of energy.   It's obvious, good food is God's food.

If God loves us and wants us to be happy and healthy then we should be paying attention to what we eat, can I get an amen?  That is if you believe in a loving God.  If not, do it for selfish reasons then.  In either case processed food is evil, as are those who push it.

Hooters vs Krishna

The problem is the Devil has better PR.   The devil hired Don Draper long ago and is light years ahead.  The devils food is "sold" by young girls in skimpy outfits with fake boobs and fake smiles.  God's food is "sold" by hairy legged hippy chicks in orange floor length skirts, but the smile is real.

Selling salad and veggies is hard work in a world with dollar burgers, all you can gobble buffets  the promise of quick fixes from Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig (more on her in a later post).

To make it worse the Devil won't play fair.  The Evil food industry spends millions lobbying congress to make sure that no laws are passed to protect even children from their products.  Using tactics that are reminiscent of those plied by the tobacco industry in the 60's; Big Junk Food has thwarted every attempt to bring about change in school lunch programs.

Pizza is a vegetable?  According to the US Congress it is.  In November of 2011 the Congress denied proposed new USDA guidelines that would require more fresh fruit, vegetables and whole grains in school lunch programs.  And went even further allowing frozen pizza the be labeled a vegetable.  You can read a great article on it from the Huff Post here.

The Devils Lobbyists (redundant?) are busy elsewhere as well.

The dairy lobby making sure fat content of milk is listed by volume not by calories.  It's a math trick.  4% milk is actually 66% fat; 2% milk is 33% fat and 1% is 20% fat.

The beef lobby fighting to keep pink slime in the meet (wiki link here)

The poultry lobby...  well I got a thing about chickens.

Even the Cola lobby keeping the sugar water flowing unchecked.

It's an up hill battle for Dr Fuhrman and the Krishna's but the good fight always is.

Here's a thought for all you good Christians out there (not that many are reading this blog, but just in case); at the next church social try a salad and veggie casarole pot luck.  Sponsor a farmers market.  Think; WWJE?  What would Jesus eat?   I'm no theologian bit I'd guess it's not a plate of wings and fries at Hooters or the meat lovers pizza at Pizza Hut.  I bet he'd be chillin' with the Vegans.  Just for fun here's my fav Jesus image.  Jesus is just alright with me!
